IELTS prices in Nepal 2026
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is the most widely accepted English proficiency test for university admissions and student visa applications in Australia, the UK, Canada, New Zealand and the USA. In Nepal, IELTS is administered by two official providers: IDP and the British Council.
As of September 2026, the official fee for IELTS Academic on Computer in Nepal is NPR 36,000, charged equally by IDP and BC. Through finduni.ai the same test is NPR 35,000, NPR 1,000 below the official fee.
Prices on this page are fetched live from finduni.ai's booking system, the same table the booking page reads, so the figure you see here is the figure you pay. Official fees are published by IDP Nepal and British Council Nepal.
Official vs finduni.ai price
Every IELTS test finduni.ai currently books, with the official fee beside it:
| Test | Official Price | finduni.ai Price | You Save |
|---|---|---|---|
| IELTS Academic (Computer Based) (IDP) | NPR 36,000 | NPR 35,000 | NPR 1,000 |
| IELTS Academic (Computer Based) (BC) | NPR 36,000 | NPR 35,000 | NPR 1,000 |
finduni.ai currently books IELTS Academic on Computer. IELTS General Training is not bookable through finduni.ai at the moment.
What affects the IELTS price in Nepal?
The IELTS fee in Nepal is set regionally by the two providers and depends on the variant (Academic, General Training, UKVI, Life Skills). For the same variant, IDP and the British Council charge the same fee.
- All four test components: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking
- One free Test Report Form (TRF) sent to your chosen institution
- Online access to your results via the IELTS portal
- Access to IELTS preparation materials through IDP or BC portals
Will this price change soon?
IDP and the British Council review IELTS fees periodically and generally do not announce a change far in advance. Nobody outside the providers knows the next date, and any guide that claims to is guessing. What you can rely on is this: the price on this page and on the booking page is read from the same live table at the moment you load it, so if the official fee moves, this page moves with it. If you are planning to test in the next few months, booking at today's figure removes the uncertainty.
IELTS on Computer and Writing on Paper
IDP has announced that paper-based IELTS is no longer offered in Nepal after 27 June 2026 (IDP Nepal). The content, scoring and acceptance of IELTS do not change: what changes is how you sit it. Our IELTS on Computer vs Writing on Paper guide covers how to choose.
- IELTS on Computer: Listening, Reading and Writing are on computer, and Speaking is face to face with an examiner. This is the format you can book through finduni.ai.
- Writing on Paper: Listening and Reading are on computer, Writing is handwritten on paper, and Speaking is face to face with an examiner. Confirm its availability and fee with IDP before you book.
IDP vs British Council: is there a price difference in Nepal?
No. As of September 2026, both providers charge NPR 36,000 for IELTS Academic on Computer, and both are NPR 35,000 through finduni.ai. The differences are in test centre locations, available dates and result access, not price.
| Feature | IDP | BC |
|---|---|---|
| Official price (computer) | NPR 36,000 | NPR 36,000 |
| finduni.ai price | NPR 35,000 | NPR 35,000 |
| Cities bookable via finduni.ai | Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, Biratnagar | No centre listed yet |
| Speaking format | Face to face | Face to face |
Total cost of sitting IELTS in Nepal
The test fee is the largest line, but not the only one. Here is a realistic budget for a Nepali student preparing for and taking IELTS, using finduni.ai's current fee:
| Cost item | Typical range (NPR) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| IELTS test fee (finduni.ai) | 35,000 | NPR 1,000 below the official NPR 36,000 |
| IELTS preparation materials | 0 to 3,000 | Free Cambridge materials online |
| Practice test (optional) | 0 to 2,000 | Free IDP and BC mock tests |
| Transport to test centre | 200 to 1,500 | Depends on city |
| Total (estimated) | 35,200 to 41,500 | vs 36,200 to 42,500 at the official fee |
If price is the deciding factor, PTE Academic currently carries the larger discount through finduni.ai (NPR 3,500 below its official fee) and is accepted for the same visas.
IELTS availability by city in Nepal
finduni.ai currently books IELTS in 4 cities: Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan and Biratnagar. The price is the same in every city and depends only on the provider you choose; what differs is which providers have a centre there and how many dates are open.
| City | Providers bookable | Centres | finduni.ai price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kathmandu | IDP | 1 | NPR 35,000 |
| Pokhara | IDP | 1 | NPR 35,000 |
| Chitwan | IDP | 1 | NPR 35,000 |
| Biratnagar | IDP | 1 | NPR 35,000 |
Date availability varies by city and month. Kathmandu has the most frequent sittings, often several per week; the other cities run fewer dates and are worth booking in advance. Each city page above shows the number of dates currently open.
